During the month of May, from the 14th to the 20th, the teacher training foreseen in our project took place in Konya, Turkey. The event brought together educators from various partner organisations eager to improve their knowledge and approaches to improve reading among young people. They shared good practices, knowledge, group work and presentations where teachers had the opportunity to get to know each other better and work together. Also, the attendees had the opportunity to get to know the magnificent city of Konya during their free time and enjoy its culture.
The training was meticulously organised, guaranteeing a productive and enriching experience for all participants, as, in addition to the use of theoretical presentations, it was also dynamic with practical activities requiring everyone’s participation.
The days were packed with a variety of activities, covering a range of topics to provide teachers with valuable tools and strategies.
The week was divided into several training modules, key areas for our IMPROVE project:
Module 1: Motivating Young People to Read: Discovering effective methods to ignite a passion for reading among young people.
Module 2: Creating Reading-Friendly Environments: Learning how to set up attractive and comfortable spaces that encourage reading.
Module 3: Interactive application of good practice examples: Exploring interactive approaches to implementing successful reading initiatives.
Module 4: Using technology to improve reading skills: Harnessing the power of technology to improve reading skills.
Introduction to the multimedia toolkit: Introducing teachers to various multimedia resources that can be used to support reading activities.
Module 5: Improving reading comprehension: Techniques to improve reading comprehension and understanding.
In addition, the last day was also dedicated to the training that teachers will have to provide once they arrive in their home countries to share what they have learned with teachers from other schools and their school.
All in all, the teacher training was an enriching experience for the participants who returned to their countries with their batteries recharged and with the feeling of having learned and having more tools to use in their classrooms.
